DECON call for Assistant Professors applications

The Department of Economics at the University of Chile invites applications for three assistant professors from suitably qualified applicants with a PhD in Economics. Applicants are expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate level, as well as publish in highly ranked academic journals.

Two of the selected applicants will be co-sponsored by the Centre for Social Conflict and Cohesion (COES).

COES is a multidisciplinary research centre based at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Chile that brings together academics from four different Chilean universities and a wide-ranging network of international scholars to study issues related to social conflict and cohesion. The four research lines of COES study the socioeconomic dimensions of conflict, individual and group interaction, social and political conflict and geographies of conflict. COES was founded with a significant grant from Conicyt (Fondap15130009). To find out more about COES, see www.coes.cl

We welcome applications from candidates with knowledge in the fields of applied microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. Applicants selected for the positions co-sponsored by COES will also be expected to contribute to COES with their work and activities. We will therefore also value interest in and knowledge of subjects that fit with the research interests of the Centre.

The positions require a high level of functioning in Spanish and preferably also English.
Required documents (in English or Spanish) for applications:

1.      A cover letter explaining your research and teaching interests. If you are applying for the positions co-sponsored by COES, state how your research interests relate to the objectives of the centre.
2.      A complete and updated CV
3.      Samples of your two best pieces of work
4.      The names and contact details of two referees

Applications and any other communications about these positions should be sent to dir.econ@fen.uchile.cl before 31 August 2014. Short-listed applicants will be contacted in September 2014 for interviews. We expect selected applicants to be able to start working as soon as possible thereafter.
