Esteban Puentes is an associate professor at the School of Economics and Business. He currently serves as director of the Department of Economics.

He served as academic director of the Ph.D. in Economics and the Master’s in Economics between May 2019 and August 2025. He has been director of the Undergraduate School of Economics and Administration and a consultant for the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and United Nations Development Programme, among others. He was also a visiting scholar at the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.
