Nathaly Rivera is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Chile. She specializes in environmental and resource economics, with a particular focus on environmental pollution and policy, energy, and extractive industries. Her research spans two main areas. The first examines the determinants and consequences of air pollution and environmental policy, with an emphasis on impacts on health, education, and technology adoption. The second investigates the local economic, social, and institutional effects of extractive industries and natural resource development.
She has worked as a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank and is currently an Associate Researcher with the Environmental, Natural Resource and Applied Economics (REES) research group at Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Latin American Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (LAERE).
Before joining the University of Chile, Nathaly held research positions at the University of São Paulo and the University of Alaska Anchorage. She received her Ph.D. in Environmental and Resource Economics from Michigan State University and holds a Master’s degree in Regional Economics from Universidad Católica del Norte.
