Academic degrees
Roberto Álvarez is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics.
He has served as Director of the School of Economics and Business Administration and also as Director of the Department of Economics. In addition, he has worked as a consultant for the Competitiveness and Innovation Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and as a Senior Economist in the Economic Research Division and the Financial Stability Division of the Central Bank of Chile.
His main research areas are topics related to economic development: productivity, international trade, and technological innovation, with a particular emphasis on the Chilean economy.
Álvarez holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Universidad de Chile, along with a Ph.D. in Management from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
