Alejandro Micco is a full professor at the School of Economics and Business of the Universidad de Chile. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, a Master of Science in Engineering, and an Industrial Civil Engineering degree from the Universidad de Chile. He has served as a senior researcher in the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank (Washington DC) and at the Central Bank of Chile. He served as Capital Markets Coordinator and Chief Economist at the Ministry of Finance during the 2006–2010 period. He was Undersecretary of Finance during the second administration of President Michelle Bachelet.

In his roles at the Ministry of Finance, he participated in the 2008 Pension Reform, Unemployment Insurance, Capital Markets, financial infrastructure, amendments to the General Banking Act, and the creation of the Financial Market Commission (Comisión para el Mercado Financiero – CMF).

He teaches macroeconomic courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Universidad de Chile. His research has been published in various international journals and utilized in economic policy debates in both Latin America and Europe.
