Full Professor, Department of Economics, University of Chile. His research interests include wage and employment policies, macroeconomics and technological and industrial policies. He first came to Chile as Ford Foundation Visiting Professor to the University of Chile. He later worked 10 years as senior analyst in the ILO’s Regional Employment Program for Latin America and the Caribbean, advising governments of the region in wage and employment policies; 17 years at ECLAC, where he finished as Director of the Division of production, Productivity and Management. He has been back full time at the University since 1999. He is the author of 7 books and over 50 articles on employment, income distribution, macroeconomics and economic development.
